There has been a gallery at 41 Fore Street, St Just since the late 1990s. The Jane Adams Gallery was founded by Jane soon after she moved to St Just in 2008 to fulfill her childhood dream of being an artist with a gallery in Cornwall – and about time too she would say.
Since those early days St Just has seen the most amazing regeneration as a vibrant and free thinking town and centre for the arts with superb cafes, pubs and takeaways too. In fact it is the most westerly town in the UK and retains its Wild West reputation for getting things done in its own way. A visit to St Just is a delight in so many ways.
Have a look at www.tincoast.co.uk for more information on visiting the area and sign up to the XplorTin Coast app. The gallery is a Visitor Information Point for the area. We can help you find out opening times and where the good cafes are!
The gallery is best known as a showcase for Jane’s ceramics which she started making in 1995 when she left her job as a Chartered Surveyor just before the birth of her daughter Kara.
The gallery has always been blessed with amazing display windows and light and a beautiful slate floor which is often remarked upon. This sets the tone for the whole space.
The gallery has shown the work of many talented artists and makers over the years – not all from Cornwall – which is refreshing for our local customers.
The work we show now is always chosen for its originality and quality, as you will see on your visit to the shop or the online shop.
This website is dedicated to the gallery artists and the other items we produce in house including our homewares and wellbeing ranges. If you would like to view Jane’s extensive range of ceramics please visit her sister website www.janeadamsceramics.net where you can browse her whole range and order your favourites online. You can also commission her to make ceramic versions of your pets by going to COMMISSIONS – JANE ADAMS CERAMICS for full details.
The gallery has recently had a full revamp and a new layout giving more space to display the work.
Have a look at the ‘OUR ARTISTS AND MAKERS‘ page to see what we have on offer from our gallery artists and makers, and visit the online shop if you cannot make it in person to buy. We know things have been difficult this last year or two and want to make sure you are able to visit one way or another.
Jane has lost count of people coming into the gallery and saying ‘thank goodness you’re still here’ which sometimes made her cry – often in public. When the gallery reopened after the first lockdown in June 2020 Jane had no idea if people would even still want to buy art. Thankfully they did – even more than before! It seems art has a place in people’s hearts as much as ever and she was even told it sustained people in ways they never expected.
We look forward to seeing you soon be it in the gallery in person or in our online shop!
